Photographer Estizer Smith investigates her lineage through a series of captivating images collected during her return to Lowndes County, Alabama. Through her photographs, Estizer not only displays her personal history but also uncovers stories from once one of the most racially divided areas of the country. As a black child of civil rights workers in the segregated South, Estizer was inspired by her parents’ activism and her passion for photography was ignited when she uncovered her father’s photographs from the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.
