Arete Gallery: Painting by Tina Cantelmi

Tina Cantelmi

Meet the Artist

Using imaginative undulations and luminous brush and pour work, my paintings explore optimistic themes and spaces to evoke hope, humor, and the belief we can seek a place, whether real or imagined, where all things work for good. I prefer to paint lush textural surfaces in a paradox of palettes – from dreamy, tranquil tones to a heady dose of hues. Overall, my goal is to portray buoyant thoughts, memories, and/or phenomena. My paintings are in private and corporate collections from Florida to Kentucky, Boston, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Born in Bethlehem, PA, I grew up creating art surrounded by an extended Italian family and a family-owned hardware store now in its 100th year. I earned a BFA from Alfred University College of Ceramics, Alfred, NY, and then studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where I later served as an adjunct professor. My love for fabric and fashion led me to a career as a fashion and fabrics editor for Women’s Wear Daily in NYC, where I produced front-page fashion trend stories.
