Art is a Medicine that Treats Body, Mind and Soul
The arts don’t just uplift and inspire: they heal. Studies show that listening to music, watching a performance, or participating in an arts project helps reduce pain and sooth anxiety. Research also demonstrates that arts programming helps those with long-term illnesses feel more control over their future and their pain. Arts programming has even been proven to slow memory loss in Alzheimer’s patients and help those with dementia connect with their past and their loved ones.
A study from the National Endowment for the Arts confirmed that, “seniors who participate in weekly arts programs report better health, fewer doctors’ visits, and less medication usage than those who don’t.” Hospitals around the world also report that art therapy visits raise the quality of life for patients, their caregivers and their families.
Over the next several months, the team here at Arete Gallery will be developing a showcase of artists who are “Healing Through the Arts”. Right now, the project is set to launch in September 2021. If you’d like to get involved or learn more, reach out to us here on our website or contact us at the gallery.
We look forward to sharing more information on this project as it develops.
