For the past 15 years, I have been designing and creating fabric collage art quilts. I am fascinated by the challenge of creating art with fabric and thread, rather than paint, and this medium has allowed me to combine two loves, art and fabric, in a unique way. I enjoy the collage aspect of my art, and I believe that fabric adds a dimensional quality and a depth to my work. In addition, working with fabric allows me to create “outside the box,” and many of my pieces are anything but rectangular, with shapes dictated by the subject or the overall design of the art quilt.
Most pieces begin with detailed drawings which are then used to create patterns within patterns. My designs are built layer by layer, and they sometimes go off in new directions which I never anticipated. The element of surprise is always around the corner.
My love of nature, color, and design, as well as my interest in the world around me, are reflected in my work. The subjects of my art quilts are as varied as my interests and imagination, and I find inspiration everywhere.
My work can be found in shows, online, and in private and corporate collections. I have worked with clients to create commissioned pieces, one of which was specifically made to be donated to the Pennsylvania Ballet. Seven of my wildlife art quilts are featured in the book, Contemporary Wildlife Art, a curated collection of wildlife art in a wide variety of media by 74 international artists, published by Schiffer Publishing in 2015.
The fabric collage art quilts I create are painting-size wall hangings. Each quilt is one of a kind, never to be repeated, with a hidden rod pocket and custom cut wood hanging device on the back.
